Vacu-Lug Tyres Limited is committed to continuously improving its environmental performance and ensuring that the Company complies with all applicable environmental legislation. We will prevent pollution and minimise the extent of any environmental damage occurring as a result of our activities.

ISO14001

The company has been awarded ISO14001:2004 status for its Environmental Management System.  The award follows a rigorous external inspection and audit, during which the inspectors were especially impressed with the actions the company has taken to reduce energy its use by 20 percent and recycle 100 percent of its non-tyre-related waste.

As a part of its energy use reduction programme, Vacu-Lug has developed special thermal insulation systems for its tyre presses which are now being used by many other manufacturers.

Reduce, Re-use, Recycle

At Vacu-Lug, minimising our impact on the environment is important in everything we do. In addition to the well documented benefit of retreading tyres, here are just some of the ideas we have put into action.

Reduce
Since Vacu-Lug developed their own thermal insulation for the tyre presses they have reduced gas usage by 27% cutting our carbon emissions by 950 tonnes per annum.

We have replaced all solvent based adhesives with water based solutions removing these potentially harmful materials from the atmosphere.

Re-Use
Paper in the office is shredded on site and used as packaging material for the goods and products Grumac dispatch around the world.

The rubber off-cuts from our Earthmover production are re-milled and used to make fenders and other rubber products.

Recycle
We work with our suppliers to reduce packaging material where possible and any that cannot be returned is baled on site and recycled with Veolia, our waste management partner.

Last year we recycled 4,630 tonnes of scrap tyres producing 3,704 tonnes of rubber granulate used in sports surfaces and children’s playgrounds and 1,135 tonnes of recycled steel.  The use of these recycled products saved 12,223 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Retreading helps protect the environment. We all have a responsibility to ensure we help protect our environment for future generations and retread tyres supplied by Vacu-Lug can play an important part.

Retread tyres use less natural resources – a typical Vacu-Lug retread uses 75-litres less oil in raw materials than an equivalent new tyre, as well as reducing the demand for energy and other petrochemicals during the manufacturing process.

Retread tyres produce less waste – using retread tyres greatly reduces the levels of waste disposal. With a retread policy, customers are cutting their tyre waste in half. At Vacu-Lug, all scrap casings and tyres are disposed of via registered tyre disposal agents approved by the Tyre Recovery Association and wherever possible. This waste is recycled.

Working with the Environment – Vacu-Lug is an Environment Agency certified company and is committed to continuously improving its Environmental Performance. We work with our suppliers, customers and neighbours to minimise our impact on the environment.
