Why use Retread Tyres?

"Retreading is one of the best options for treating used tyres and minimising their environmental impact”

The Environment Agency

Retreads are safe

Because they are manufactured and tested to the same stringent performance criteria as new tyres. This has been a legal requirement in the UK since 2004 and is now mandatory across Europe.

They are durable

Retreads can last as long as new tyres, and in many cases can last longer, thanks to their unique design.

The production process is flexible

Both the tread compound and the tread pattern can be made to order for specific vehicles or road conditions, and thicker sidewalls can be built in to reduce wear from kerb contact.

They are widely used

Almost every other tyre fitted within the UK Commercial Vehicle Fleet is a retread tyre. Most major manufacturers have a retread facility and Vacu-Lug manufacture Pirelli’s retread range, under license.

They save you money

Retread tyres are around 20% cheaper than new budget tyres on average. When you add the additional cost-per-mile benefits, the savings are even more substantial.

And, they are good for the environment

Retreading uses less natural resources – a typical Vacu-Lug retread uses 75-litres less oil and raw materials than an equivalent new tyre as well as reducing the demand for energy. Independent tests have also shown the manufacture of retread tyres generates 70 percent less carbon dioxide than that of new tyres.
