Types of Retread

Retreading is the generic term for tyre reconditioning including recapping and top capping to extend the useful life of the tyre by the addition of new material. It covers the replacement of the tread rubber and may include the renovation of the sidewall rubber and the renewal or part or whole of the protective breaker or belt of a radial play commercial vehicle tyre.

TOP-CAPPING (Precured Retreading)

A process in which the worn tread rubber only is renewed, by application of a pre-formed and vulcanised tread.

RECAPPING

A process in which rubber is removed from the worn tread and over the shoulder and new unvulcanised rubber is then applied.

REMOULDING (Bead to Bead Retreading)

A process in which rubber is removed as necessary and new rubber, unvulcanised, extending from bead area to bead area is applied.
